Hi, Thank you for making such a useful web site!! JH.

What a great resource for parents in the Illawarra...congratulations!

Anything
that encourages kids to drop their playstations and get out into their local
community has got to be a great thing!

Lets hope other local councils promote
their public spaces in the same way so children and families can get out there!

Thankyou for such an informative website. I will be letting everyone at work
know about this at our next staff meeting. We are always looking for safe and
well serviced parks for our community access/mobility programs at school. We
especially need to know if the parks have toilets, wheelchair access and how
close they are to roads, water etc. Thankyou again,

Tullimbar Village (Illawarra Highway nr Albion Park) residents are embarking on
the construction of a community garden. We would like to include a play area for
our kids as there is no public play area for them at the moment. Can you advise
us on where/how we can obtain some play equipment eg swings slides etc. Can
this be set up as a council initiative? Are there any grants for purchase or
provision of playground equipment?
Thank you

What a fantastic idea to integrate a children's playspace with your community
garden!
Developers are required to make a contribution to their local Council
under Section 94 for the provision of open/recreational space within their
development, so you could approach Shellharbour Council(Manager, Community
Development - 42216092)to see if any provisions have been made for a children's
playspace in Tullimbar Village and the possibility of a project partnership.

Otherwise, grants are very difficult to come by, unless you can secure
sponsorship. We would also recommend that you consider a more natural creative
setting with less emphasis on the very expensive "plastic fantastic"
equipment if possible and involve local children and families in the design of
the area.
Good luck with your endeavours!

Thank you for this invaluable resource which we have used for our
grandchdren.

Now we have a problem in Woonona and hope some people can help.
In 1931, a private resident donated / transferred 31 Alfred St Woonona to
Wollongong Council for a children's plaground and public reserve, which it was
for decades and which my children used. Council removed the play equipment and
sign and did not replace them. Now when more families are moving into the area,
Council wants to reclassify the property so it can be sold for profit.

We
need people to send written submissions opposing this and quoting file SU26465
to the General Manager: Attention Land Use Planning, Wollongong City Council, at
either Locked Bag 8821, Wollongong NSW 2521 or at
records@wollongong.nsw.gov.au

This would be a big help for once it is
lost we will be unlikely to get it back. The land could house a garden as well
as a playground.
Your help is ap...

Thankyou for letting us all know what is happening to this playspace in Woonona.
This is an important issue which has been faced by other local communities
across the Illawarra. If you would like to discuss the situation further, you
are welcome to contact the Play Illawarra project officer at Healthy Cities
Illawarra on 4226 5000

So glad I found this site when searching for a suitable spot for a fun birthday
play. Well done everyone, and to Wollongong Council on their list of beaches &
rockpools.
